An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team as Life Skills Instructor at our Jigsaw Center. 

 

Job Title: Life Skills Instructor

Reports to: Manager

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 22 Hours a Week

Place of work: Jigsaw Center

 

The Role:

Based at our Jigsaw Centre in Colchester, Essex, supporting and teaching our day students with life skills appropriate to their individual needs in a one to one or small group environment. In this role you will be helping our students with the unique challenges that they face and heling them to achieve their goals so that they can live more independently.

 

  • Planning and managing the running of the Life Skills Department
  • Creating personalised activity plans and goals for each individual, based around S.M.A.R.T objectives and also meeting the services’ ethos
  • Providing areas such as tying shoelaces, telling the time, literacy and numeracy, basic IT skills
  • Planning a varied timetable of activities both in the Jigsaw Centre and out in the community to meet the needs of the students and their learning
  • Supporting the students in a low arousal environment in line with their individual learning and activity plans
  • Working in conjunction with students key workers and families and families to plan activities based on their changing needs
  • Ensuring that each person’s work is monitored and is evaluated on an ongoing basis
  • Responsibility for the care, health and safety of the individuals you are working with 

 

Applications are welcome from applicants who:

  • Minimum GCSE level including English and Maths at grade A*-C or equivalent
  • Experience with individuals with ASD or Learning Difficulties would be highly beneficial.
  • Food Safety Qualification beneficial
  • Transferable knowledge and abilities in all basic life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, washing and ironing
  • PTLLS qualification or similar teaching qualification highly desirable.
